K9 Clicking
Meet the Trainer
Rebecca is a graduate and Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) of the Karen
Pryor Academy of Training and Behavior.  Participants in this 6 month
program must achieve a 90% or better on the course in order to graduate.
The academy curriculum is based on scientifically proven methods using
force-free techniques and operant conditioning.  Rebecca is dedicated to
continuing education, attending many seminars and workshops each year and
is a full member of the
Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

Rebecca has been training dogs professionally since 2005 when she began
offering private, in-home dog training classes.  She was introduced to clicker
training in 2002 by a professional dog trainer, doggie daycare owner and
Sergeant of Metro Nashville K9 Search and Rescue, part of the
Office of
Emergency Management for Davidson County, TN.  Rebecca joined the team
and used positive reinforcement to train her dogs for live person area search
and human remains detection.   She was soon promoted to Corporal based
on her ability to train her dogs and the other team members.  Rebecca then
went on to join
USAR (Urban Search and Rescue), a team dedicated to
locating missing persons buried in rubble.

On February 5, 2008, an EF3 tornado touched down in
Lafayette, TN.  USAR
responded to the site to search for disaster victims.  During this time, Rebecca
had the opportunity to meet the President of the United States, George W.
Bush.  President Bush later sent Rebecca a
letter commending her for her
efforts in helping the people devastated by the tornado.

Rebecca is currently a member of the Wilson County Sheriff K9 Search and
Rescue unit with her dog, Karma.

Along with training experience, Rebecca also has several years of experience
as a veterinary technician.  In 2002, Rebecca started working at a small,
single doctor practice and worked her way up to be a full-time technician and
training manager at a busy 7-doctor hospital.

Rebecca is also active in the pet rescue community.  In the past 10 years, she
has rescued and re-homed over 80 homeless pets.  Fostering one dog at a
time ensures that they each get the proper training, health care and
rehabilitation needed for life in their new forever home.  Rebecca also offers
free training for any of her locally adopted dogs.  Rebecca has traveled as far
as Medina Del Campo, Spain, to help with rescue efforts for the
Spanish
Greyhound, called "galgo".  She was also a member of a Nashville based
veterinary task force that travelled to Louisiana to help with the animal rescue
efforts after Hurricane Katrina.

In January 2011, Rebecca began competing in
AKC Rally Obedience with her
dogs, Karma and Story.  Karma has titled in Advanced and Story in Novice.
